Massive Sinkhole Opens Up on the Football Field at Austin Peay State University

A 40-foot sinkhole opened up on the football field of Austin Peay State University and it looks like something out of a doomsday movie. According to reports, a small sinkhole opened up a few weeks ago and crews were trying to stop the hole from growing. They have been unsuccessful, obviously, now that this hole has grown to nearly 30 by 50 feet wide and 40 feet deep.

The hole has swallowed most of the red zone on one side of the stadium as well as the a good portion of the track. The APSU football stadium is under renovations that were to be finished in time for the upcoming football season.

As shocking as this might be to you reading this, apparently sinkholes are a common thing around the area of the campus. The construction company even included a sinkhole remediation line item in their budget.  Also, there are sinkholes that have been remediated and decorated on the campus for the students to enjoy.

Construction crews will continue to dig out the underground limestone cave until they reach bedrock. Once that is complete, they can begin the process of filling in the hole and getting the field back to working order.
