Nike MAG shoe to be sold on Ebay to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation [Video]

Yesterday we posted the teaser video that Nike dropped on YouTube that showed a stock pile of the Nike MAG shoe that Marty McFly, aka Michael J. Fox, sported in Back to the Future II.  We speculated that maybe these shoes would be available to the general public but it would be insanely hard to get them.  Well, that might be a little harder than we initially thought.

Nike has donated 1,500 pairs of the MAG shoes to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to help fight Parkinson’s Disease.  Through Ebay, Nike will auction off 150 pairs each day until September 18th with all of the net proceeds going to the foundation.

The shoes are sick and if you have the extra change, it is all for a good cause.  The shoes feature an exterior that illuminates both along the side and sole as well as on the tongue.  They will come with a charger for the lights and the battery is said to last up to 3,000 hours.  The only thing missing, however, is the auto lace up feature.  This was probably the coolest part of the shoe but apparently Nike has not come up with that technology just yet.

In addition to Nike donating all the net proceeds from the shoes, Google co-founder Sergey Brin and his wife Anne Wojciki have agreed to match all the donations to the foundation, up to $50 million, through the end of 2012.

Even though the everyday Joe or shoe head more than likely won’t be able to get a hold of these shoes, it is still pretty awesome what Nike is doing.  Here’s hoping that when the movie year Marty rocked these shoes (2015) actually rolls around, there will be a pair that we can all afford…and a Mattel Hover Board to go with them.
