#tbt The Dawn Of The Internet Was Pretty Hilarious

Back in the mid-1990’s, we were all becoming more and more aware of that thing that Al Gore invented. The internet was on the rise. Modems were becoming a common background noise in offices and AOL was gearing up for total world domination.

I remember the day we got the internet. It took a friend of a friend who was, for lack of a better example, a more portly version Nick Burn’s, your company’s computer guy. He hooked us up and before I knew it I was on the information superhighway, and more importantly, AOL Instant Messenger.

Growing up on the internet, made it easier to understand the new technology. However, introducing it to the parents of the 90’s was a whole other beast. They had to be thorough with their explanations while being concise, which led to some pretty funny infomercials regarding the new age of technology that was upon us.

Remember Paul Riser’s AT&T commercials? You’ll never hear “the net” reference as much in another commercial.

This guy in the AOL Commercial is a real humble bragger. He talks like he’s the only person in the world who has “kayaking buddies.” And for the record, did you see his face when his friend walked in on him? You can’t tell me that dude wasn’t on an early version of Red Tube, pumping away.

“Get on. Get what you need. Go do something with it.” – Prodigy Internet had a slogan as shitty as their service. The poor man’s AOL.

Was it just me, or did you totally expect this informercial to end as a porn. I mean look at that guy’s stache.

Obviously, this is one of the more popular clips when talking about the dawn of the internet. Katie Couric and Bryant Gumble are completely clueless.

Check out the totally practical $800 phone.

I call bullshit. No way the hot chick is teaching the dork about the internet. No way.

This is the absolute end all, be all for internet commercials. This informercial is the biggest piece of shit I’ve ever seen but I cannot look away. Bonus points if you tell me how to spell the daughters name.
