This is one of the reasons I love the internet so much.
When asked during a Reddit AMA about his resemblance to the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Will Ferrell responded by saying that was actually him behind the bass drum and Chad Smith is just one of his characters.

Chad Smith got wind of his comment and challenged him to a drum battle and the challenge has finally been accepted and will go down on the Thursday, May 22nd episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Fallon announced the battle last night on his show saying it would “settle who’s the better drummer once and for all.”
The two have been trading barbs for months leading up to this, so it should be nothing short of hilarious when it goes down next week. Smith doesn’t think to highly of Ferrell’s drumming skills and Ferrell doesn’t seem to be practicing much.
“Terrible. I hope he’s practicing,” Smith said after being asked how he would rate Ferrell’s drum skills.
“I have not been practicing,” Ferrell said. “There’s no amount of practice that would help me become a good drummer.”
In addition to a hilarious rivalry, Smith and Ferrell will be raising money for Cancer for College and Little Kids Rock, respectively. The two also have a side bet that is pretty good as well.
“If I win, he has to wash my car for a month and give me pedicures,” says the drummer. “If I lose, I have to be his stand-in for his next film.”
