Lollapalooza 2011 lineup announced

For everyone that bought their “early bird” tickets to Lollapalooza, this was the day they have been waiting for. For almost a month, the tickets for the 20th Anniversary of Lollapalooza have been on sale. Roughly 700 people were lucky enough to get the “secret sale” tickets. The sale is secret because it is unannounced as to when it will occur. It is equally important to many because these tickets are an unbelievable $60 each where as regular priced tickets are $215! I was lucky enough to score 2 of those secret tickets but many weren’t. With the lineup announced today, I can honestly say that I wouldn’t have a problem paying the full price for admission.

The headliners are worth the price of admission alone. Eminem, Muse, Coldplay, and The Foo Fighters are headlining this years event with many others on the bill too.  Deadmau5, My Morning Jacket, A Perfect Circle, Deftones, Explosions in the Sky, Floggin Molly and Cold War Kids are among the many other great acts that will grace the main stage.  There are 123 bands performing over the 3 days in Chicago’s Grant Park.

In addition to that there is Perry’s Stage which will feature some of the premier DJ’s and techno artists from around the world.  This year the tent will hold around 15,000 people and promises to be a large, glow stick filled, sweat inducing dance off.  Headlining this stage will be Girl Talk, Kid Cudi and Pretty Lights, among others.  Jay Electronica, Super Mash Bros. and Collie Buddz are other acts that should be exciting to see as well.

As with any lineup there will be disappointments.  A lot of people thought that the Smashing Pumpkins would be a headliner.  Rumors were also out that The Black Keys and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs might make an appearance too.  Most surprising might be the absence of 2006’s amd 2008’s headliner Kanye West who would seem to be a shoe-in for a spot.  Perhaps headlining Lollapalooza Chile was what kept him from the show stateside.

For a full list of the lineup for this years event visit the Lollapalooza website.

Can’t wait.
