Old Crow Medicine Show, Motherfolk Anchored A Solid Day Two At Bunbury Music Festival

After a bit of tumultuous day one, Bunbury Music Festival in Cincinnati went and totally redeemed themselves. The lineup on the surface seemed to be the weakest of all three days, but once we got in and heard Columbus based Old Hundred wailing, we knew it was going to be a good day.

The event organizers added two entrances after seeing the lines from day one and it helped immensely. We actually walked right in without a problem. Also, we got a locker to stash our stuff because when it’s 85 degrees the last thing you want to be wearing is a backpack. For $40 for all three days, you really can’t beat it. Plus the locker has a USB port so we can charge our phones.

After grabbing reasonably priced ($6) beers, we headed over to see the Cincinnati/Kentucky based Motherfolk who rocked the shit out of the Pavilion Stage. They only got a half hour set but used every minute to their advantage. At the end of the show, the guitarist even launched his ax into the crowd, which was equal parts awesome and dangerous. Also worth noting, their name has no significant meaning other than it sounds like mother f–k when you say it fast. Listen to “Hiccups” and thank me later.

From Motherfolk, we made a left turn and caught Devil Makes Three. They were so good that it took me until half way through their set to realize they didn’t even have a drummer. Lucia Turino playing the upright bass is a thing of beauty to see and hear. Taking the bass line for a walk is an understatement. I highly suggest catching them if you ever have the chance.

Old Crow Medicine show was the dusk headliner that my buddy kept hyping up. I told him I didn’t have high expectations, but I’d still go see them. Holy shit was he right. Old Crow won Saturday, in my opinion. Avett Brothers were fantastic, but Old Crow blew my doors off. Naturally, as a casual fan, I got giddy and danced my face off for “Wagon Wheel” but the energy from the entire show was unreal.

Avett Brothers closed down the show on Saturday and from what I remember, it was good. That’s all I can say. I was hammered. A little right now too.

Big ups to the DJ at Tin Roof last night. He spun some serious jams. I even slow danced with my future wife (probably).

Snoop Dogg tonight! Talk to you tomorrow!
