A-Rod or A-Fraud?

A Guest Post by John Candy…

The answer to that question might actually now be A-Roid. With the recent news outbreak alleging baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez to a positive steroid test in 2003, baseball has taken yet another black eye. This news just adds to the already long developing list linking superstar baseball players to steroids. The question now becomes; how much longer will baseballs reputation last with the tainting of their league seemingly with no end in sight? It was not very surprising to see names like Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, and Roger Clemens linked to steroids. However, when I woke up that Saturday morning I must say I was surprised to see A-Rod’s name with those allegations. I thought for once in our generation we had someone in baseball chasing homerun history without a tainted record. I thought years from now when A-Rod will be going for homerun #800 that ESPN wouldn’t be plastering the airways with talk of the famous asterisk next to his name. Now it seems that the * will live on.
It isn’t surprising to me that the A-Rod camp, along with the Yankees, have declined to comment. They are scrambling around buying time trying to think of what kind of lie to come up with to try and rid Alex of this lifelong “yeah, but” he will have with this positive test. If history has taught them anything, it will be quite simple. Do not lie. Come out and say you did performance enhancing drugs, apologize, and let things die under the rug. Your teammates Jason Giambi and Andy Pettitte did that and now the steroid talk is behind them. Don’t follow in the footsteps of boneheads Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds and deny the allegations, end up in front of a grand jury, then face indictments of perjury and obstruction of justice. Don’t spend part of your $275 million on lawyers to develop a lie for you. Hire a hot secretary, bang her, then have her write an apology to read live on ESPN. Your future nickname lies in your hands Alex. A-Rod or A-Rod*?
