Clarett Wants to Suit Up Again

clarettMaurice Clarett made headlines earlier this summer when he re-enrolled at The Ohio State University, partaking in their summer classes.  The school is even allowing him to work out at the Woody Hayes Athletic Facility as well.  Well now that Clarett seems to have his academic life back on track, it looks as though he is trying to get his football life back as well.

Clarett has asked Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge David Fais for permission to leave the state to attend a tryout for the United Football League’s Omaha Nighthawks.  The professional minor league football team is already home to quarterback Jeff Garcia and running back Ahman Green, who Clarett would likely play behind.  The team has had no comment on whether or not Clarett has been officially invited or not but the fact that the personnel director is Ted Sundquist may or may not play into Clarett’s favor.  Sundquist was the General Manager of the Denver Bronco’s when they drafted Clarett.  We all know how that turned out, so whether or not Sundquist is willing to take a second chance on the bruising running back is yet to be seen.

From the standpoint of the Nighthawks, who make their UFL debut this year, it would be a big promotion to get fans to attend games.  I don’t know about you guys but I would really enjoy seeing Maurice putting his shoulders down and seeing if he still has it.  For now though this all rests in the hands of Judge Fais, who could rule as soon as this week as to whether or not to allow the former Mr. Football to leave the state.
