Floyd Mayweather Stripped Of WBO Welterweight Title Because Of Chump Change

Chump Change to Floyd Mayweather, that is.

The former WBO Welterweight champion failed to pay sanction fees (whatever those are) for his WBO title he won when he beat Manny Pacquiao on May 2. The deadline was Friday, July 3 at 4:30pm and Mayweather let that pass without paying.

The fee? $200,000.00 or 0.001% of his earnings from the MayPac fight. You know, probably the amount of money he has in his couch after making $220 million for “fighting” Pac.

Also, there is a stupid rule where it’s against sanctioning organizations rules for fighters to hold world titles in multiple weight classes. The WBC (welterweight, super) and WBA (welterweight, junior middleweight) have ignored these rules and allowed Mayweather to hold their organizations titles. The WBO, on the other hand, gave Mayweather until last Friday to pay the $200,000.00 and vacate his other two welterweight titles.

Clearly, the amount of f–ks Money Mayweather gives is currently hovering around zero.

“It’s a complete disgrace,” Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe told ESPN.com. “Floyd will decide what, or if any, actions he will take. But in the meantime he’s enjoying a couple of hundred million he made from his last outing and this has zero impact on anything he does.Floyd Mayweather has a great deal of respect for each and every organization, as he has always had in his 19-year career, but he will not be dictated to by any organization or person as it relates to his decision making.”

Mayweather plans to fight again on September 12 in what will more than likely be the last bout of his amazing 19-year career. As for his title, it will go to Timothy Bradley who won by unanimous decision against Jessie Vargas on June 27.
