Herschel Walker says he still got it, wants to play in the NFL again

Don’t Call it a comeback!

Herschel Walker is gearing up for the sophomore effort of his MMA career this Saturday on the Strikeforce card, but that isn’t what everyone is talking about. First, the loudest buzz was how ridiculous Walker looked. By ridiculous, I mean shredded. Look at that picture. How many people pushing 50 do you know, or have even seen, that look like that? People were shocked to see Walker in such great shape but what was more shocking was what he revealed during a conference call that was intended to promote the Strikeforce card.

“I know I can play. If I continue to stay in the shape I’m in now, I know I can play when I’m 50. Right now, if you asked if I can play today, there’s absolutely no doubt in my mind I can play football today, that I can help out a team today.

My first thought? Awesome. My second thought? Awesome. Normally when a person wants to play way past their prime, it gets annoying. In the case with Walker, he is in peak physical condition and looks to be in better shape than when he was in the league, if that’s possible. The next logical question would be if he could still run like he used to and Walker said he can still run 4.38 or 4.39 40-yard dash.

Walker was a two time Pro Bowl running back that played in Dallas, Philly, Minnesota and of course, for the New York football Giants. During his 12 year career he racked up 18,168 all purpose yards which puts him 8th on the all time list. Walker said that if they would have him, he would like to play in Atlanta so he could play at home.

The question would be if anyone would take a chance on him. First instinct is no, but after looking at his physical condition I think teams would have to let him try out. If he can run like he claims and can pass a physical, why not let the guy back in the league? I’d pay to go see him play where ever he goes, no matter what team it is for, although he may look good in Orange and Brown. How about a 1-2 runningback combination of Peyton Hillis and Herschel Walker? Yikes, its like we got a cheat code while playing Madden.
