TCU gets the last laugh

A few weeks ago, Gordon Gee, president of The Ohio State University, made some choice comments about schools not playing in automatic qualifying conferences and how their strength of schedule doesn’t allow them to be considered the best team in the land.

“I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it’s like murderer’s row every week for these schools,” Gee said in late November. “We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor. We play very fine schools on any given day.  So I think until a university runs through that gauntlet that there’s some reason to believe that they not be the best teams to [be] in the big ballgame.”

After TCU beat Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl on January 1st, Gordon Gee needs the best damn shoe horn in the land to get his foot out of his mouth.  Although TCU did prove something during the Rose Bowl, I am still not convinced.  Teams like Boise State and TCU cannot be judged on one or two wins per season.  Basically, their big wins (Boise State beat Va Tech, TCU beat Wisconsin) came with an entire offseason and 5 weeks to prepare, respectively.  Until I see these two teams in a legitimate conference (Big Least is debatable right now), I will not be convinced that they should be in the running for the national championship.

With that said, well played TCU…well played.
