A Tribute to the Retiring Jennie Finch

Today is a sad day.  Yes, Lou Piniella has decided to call it quits after becoming the 14th winningestmanager in Major League history but I am talking about someone else announcing their retirement from the game.  Jennie Finch.  Yes, number 27 says she will be hanging them up next month.  She plans to play in the World Cup of Softball this week withteam USA and then finish the season with the Chicago Bandits, her National Pro Fastpitch team.

Jennie has won gold (2004) and silver (2008) in the Olympics for the United States as well as helped them win 7 straight world championships.  She has helped USA Softball become the most elite in the world and now she is ready to pass the torch.  Jennie’s main reason for the retirement is to have more time with her family, her husband Astro’s AAA RHP Casey Daigle and their son Ace, 4.

Don’t think you won’t be seeing Jennie around the diamond though.  She said she plans on continuing to grow the enthusiasm around softball with her camps and would like to be part of USA Softball as either a coach or even maybe a team owner.  Whatever she does from here, we wish her the best of luck.  She has been an incredible athlete and represented the USA with the utmost class.  Congratulations Jennie, we will miss you on the mound.

Since Jennie rocked the #27, enjoy this gallery of 27 pictures of Jennie Finch…
