Back in March, Sports Illustrated decided to throw Cleveland Indians pitcher — and reigning A.L. Cy Young winner — Corey Kluber on the cover of their magazine. For good measure, they also put outfielder — and overall best player on the team — Michael Brantley on the cover with him.
Kluber started the season 0-5 with a ERA north of 5.00 while Brantley spent most of the beginning of the season on the DL for an injured back. There were more instances of injury on the team, but I’ll stop there.
Thanks a lot, SI. We all know you use your cover’s curse as a way to punish cities, but what has Cleveland done to you?
Apparently something. Because this week’s Sports Illustrated will feature LeBron James with the title “My Town, My Team” in big, bold letters.
That should be enough to let the Atlanta Hawks come back from a 3-0 deficit in the Eastern Conference Finals and make LeBron mad enough to leave…again. He’ll probably take Tristan Thompson and Iman Shumpert with him. Kevin Love will go back to Minnesota and he’ll bring Kyrie Irving with him. Dan Gilbert will move the team to Detroit where he will merge them with the Pistons because no one is left on the Cavaliers’ roster. Finally, Quicken Loans Arena will be turned into a sports museum because no one on Earth would ever believe the absolute shit luck that Cleveland sports teams have.
