Saturday Night Live has paved it’s way through the last 40 years by poking fun at the biggest headlines and biggest news in pop culture. You can’t argue that with that logic, the Ebola outbreak was bound to get some air time. However, was it in good taste?
A lot of people are up in arms with the fact that just yesterday Jacksonville Jaguars mascot Jaxson De Ville held up a sign at their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers that read “towels carry ebola”. It was a reference to the popular Terrible Towel that many Steelers fans wave throughout the game.
It is common knowledge that most of the America hates Nickelback. I hate Nickelback just as much as I hate mustard. If I had it my way, both would only be offered up in Canada. I can’t pinpoint one thing exactly that I hate so much, but if I had to pick something it would be their faces, their overall body of work and their general contribution, or lack thereof, to the music industry. I bet Lars Ulrich wouldn’t mind if people illegally downloaded their music. That may be why I like this parody so much. In this parody they go through the stupid things that people post to their Instagram (Hipstagram) accounts. It’s a successful parody because it has the “funny because it’s true” feel. Check it out below.
The Chanel No. 5 commercial featuring Brad Pitt in black and white is odd, to say the least. The commentary he spews does nothing for the Chanel brand and, at times, begs one to wonder if Brad Pitt is actually comprehending what he is saying. I find it hard to believe he knows what he is saying because he is saying it with a straight face. Also he doesn’t have a “wtf?” look on his face like everyone else who watches it and we know he isn’t a good actor. Therefore, I can only conclude that Brad was temporarily blinded by the fact that Chanel paid him $7 million to do this commercial.
A lot of times while you are sitting around with your friends, you begin some sort of trivia. One of the best games to play, that never seems to get old, is the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. For those of you who do not know how the game works, you are given an actors name and you then have to link that actor to Kevin Bacon using 6 or less co-stars. For example, if someone said Christian Bale and you went to Google for the answer, this is what you would see.
Got it? Good.
Google has just done to the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon what Shazam has dones to the Name That Tune trivia. Made it incredibly easy to cheat. Using an algorithm, if you go to Google and type in any actors name followed by “Bacon Number”, the site gives you they’re ties to Kevin Bacon immediately. It’s pretty fun trying to get a high number, I was only able to get a connection of 2 when I tried different people.
Go ahead and give it a shot!
