Fast-Food Strike Planned for McDonalds, Wendy’s and Others to Double Their Wage to over $15 per Hour

Today, fast-food workers across the country are expected to stage a large, organized, walk out to protest their wages.  This is the culmination of a year-long attempt to get wages raised in the service sector.

Workers at McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King and others have planned to walk off the job in over 50 cities to show their support.  Workers at Macy’s, Sears and Dollar Tree are expected to join them.

The idea they have is to form a union which would make it easier to bargain for higher wages while being protected from any backlash from upper management or the corporation they work for.  The problem is the wage they want.

Minimum wage in Ohio for corporations that make more than $150,000 annually is $7.85 per hour.  These workers that are going to protest to try and get their wages DOUBLED to $15.00 per hour!  Are you kidding me?

Martin Rafanan, a community organizer in St. Louis, said that the  minimum wage is causing financial frustration.

“If you’re paying $7.35 an hour and employing someone for 20, 25 hours a week, which is the average here, they’re bringing home about $10,000 a year. You can’t survive on that.” Rafanan said.

When did it become a viable option to work a PART-TIME minimum wage job as a career? I’m not talking the managers at these places, I’m talking the cashiers and line cooks. The people that went into the interview at these places knowing full well what they were going to make for what they were expected to do.  No shit you’re only going to make $10,000 per year.  You’re only working 25 hours a week! This is why people go to college.  This is why people get educated.  If you want more money and you are working at McDonalds, get into the managerial program.

People are getting lazier and lazier by the year and it is getting scary now.  Instead of taking initiative and using the experience these people have to their advantage, meaning working towards a higher paying managers position, they are going to walk out and expect to get paid more for whining.  All that is going to do is get them fired.  Then the unemployment line gets longer.

Speaking of the unemployment line, odds are someone is out of work right now and reading this and probably furious.  People with jobs walking off because they want their wages DOUBLED. Tell me a scenario in life where that would actually work.  I’ll wait.

I have, and I am sure you have, worked a minimum wage part time job.  At some point did you actually think you wanted to work that job for the next 50 years? I doubt it.

It’s simple, really. Better yourself because no one else is going to do it for you.
