On April 11 this year, the Grand National horse race will take place at the historic Aintree racecourse in Liverpool, England. It will be the 168th annual running of the race, which is one of the most exciting races to watch all year.
The Grand National is a handicap steeplechase over 4 miles 3-1/2 furlongs. The horses and jockeys have to maneuver over 30 fences over two circuits. With 40 horses in the race, the sharp 90 degree turn makes for some interesting turns of events.
Like the Kentucky Derby here in the States, which attracts gamblers who otherwise wouldn’t normally be betting or be betting on horse racing at all, the Grand National brings in people who otherwise do not watch or bet on horse racing normally.
