Former Marine Jamie Summerlin in the midst of cross country run for wounded Veterans

I came across this fantastic website this morning and could not think of a better way celebrate Memorial Day.  Even though it has since past, I am firm believer that our current service men and women and our Veterans should be recognized on a daily basis and we should treat every day as a Memorial Day.

Jamie Summerlin in a former Marine from West Virginia who has taken it upon himself to run for his fellow Veterans.  And by run, I don’t mean a marathon here or there.  His run will take him 100 days, over 3,300 miles and from Oregon to Maryland.  His run will culminate on the Fourth of July.  He is running for the Wounded Warriors Project, the non-profit organization that started as a program to provide comfort items to wounded service members has since grown into a complete rehabilitative effort to assist warriors as they recover and transition back to civilian life.

This fundraiser is probably one of the most remarkable, one man efforts, I have ever seen.  Key points to Jamie’s mission, as listed on his website, are:

  • To raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members.
  • To help injured service members aid and assist each other.
  • To provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.

I encourage anyone reading this to donate to the cause.  Jamie is putting himself through hell, running 30-40 miles per day, to help his fellow Veterans.  The least we can do is donate a couple bucks.

I cannot believe that Jamie only has 293 followers on Twitter!  Follow him and send him your support! Follow him on Facebook too.  If you go here, you can also track his progress online!

Way to go Jamie!!
