One of next year’s most eagerly anticipated film releases will be Ocean’s 8 – the all-female take on the Ocean’s 11 franchise. Set for release on June 8, 2018, the movie will have a new setting, but promises to echo many elements of the George Clooney-led trilogy of films that enjoyed such huge success in the noughties.

We’re yet to find out much detail about the planned heist in Ocean’s 8, save for the fact that it centres around the lead character Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) getting vengeance on her ex-lover, who will be played by Damian Lewis (“Billions”). The connecting link with the previous films is that Debbie is the estranged sister of Danny Ocean.

Part of the Ocean’s Eleven franchise success was down to the sheer opulence and glamour that all three movies had, with the backdrop of impressive casinos of Las Vegas and the clever plot lines that involved casino gaming action. While we might not all be able to pop over to Vegas to play for the amounts changing hands in the movies, anyone who’s enjoyed the film can recreate the thrill of playing casino games by playing online. Certain sites, such as 888casino, offer live dealer games, which utilise tech innovations (not unlike Ocean’s Eleven) to simulate a real-life casino experience on players’ screens. For example, Immersive Roulette involves a real person as the dealer and multiple HD cameras positioned around the wheel to track the ball as it moves, giving you a close-up view of the spin each time you play.

Ocean’s 8 will see a location move away from Vegas as the heist is set to take place at the Met Gala in New York. Beyond that, the plot summary released earlier this year didn’t give too much away. We know Debbie Ocean’s first task will be to pull together her team of heist buddies. These will be played by Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Cate Blanchett, Awkwafina and Sarah Paulson.

Needless to say, with the Met Gala as the backdrop, there’ll be plenty of celebrity cameo appearances. We already know Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Katie Holmes, Zayn Malik and Anna Wintour will take part and some familiar faces from the Ocean’s 11 movies will also feature. Late Late Show host James Corden is the latest name to be connected with the upcoming movie – it was announced in January that he will play an insurance investigator.

While the movie location and heist-style may be different from the Ocean’s Eleven movies, there will be continuity in terms of producers Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney and executive producer Susan Ekins. Gary Ross is directing and he co-wrote the script with Olivia Milch.
