High School Football – Austin Rehkow Kicked a 67 Yard Field Goal, Mark Rypien’s Nephew Throws For 577 Yards

Austin Rehkow, a Seattle, Washington student at Central Valley High School, kicked a 67 yard field goal as time expired to give his team the win over Shadle Park High School.

The career long field goal is a Washington state record breaking the previous record of 62 yards in 1929.  He came up a yard short of the national record which is held by Dirk Borgognone who kicked a 68 yarder in 1985.

To put it into perspective, the longest field goal in NFL history is 63 yards.  However, his kick would tie the NCAA record.  That is a funny fact because according to ESPN, Rehkow only has a partial scholarship to Eastern Washington.

It should be noted that the opposing teams quarterback also threw for 577 yards, breaking yet another state record.  That opposing quarterback?  Brett Rypien.  Does the last name look familiar?  That would be Mark Rypien’s nephew under center for the same high school his uncle played for.  Mark’s career passing total at the school, 4,965, is still a record to this day, but his nephew will more than likely break that this season.

Through his first 7 games this season he has thrown for 2,788 yards!  And he is only a sophomore.  Add those yards to his freshman campaign and Brett is at 3,478 career yards.  I think it goes without saying that he is a top 25 quarterback in the state and is on the radar on many D-1 programs.

Believe it or not, there are very few things in politics that make me actually sick to my stomach the way this most recent news about the Sue Shear Institute for Women in Public Life has.  The Missouri House of Representatives yesterday voted 93-59 to make it illegal for any public college or university in Missouri
